Natural disasters, many of which are exacerbated by climate change, interfere with sustainable development, sometimes canceling out years of success with a single event. Evidence shows that exposure to risks to people and property in all countries is increasing at a faster rate than vulnerability is decreasing, with significant economic, cultural, environmental and health impacts, especially at the local and community levels.
According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No.PP-4477 dated 04.10.2019. the Strategy for the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a “green” economy for the period 2019-2030 was approved, developed by Uzhydromet together with the involved ministries and departments. An Interdepartmental Council was also created to promote and implement this Strategy. In accordance with the Action Plan (Roadmap) of this Strategy, each ministry and department has assigned tasks to mitigate or adapt to climate change.
University scientists are involved in joint planning of natural disasters related to climate change, working with “GosKomEkologiya” make innovative proposals for the prevention of natural disasters at the local and regional level.
